Joseph P. Chiarenza

Mr. Joseph P. Chiarenza, age 83, of Salem, NH formerly of Lawrence, died on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Philip J. & Jean (Denaro) Chiarenza. Joseph was a class of 1956 graduate from Lawrence High School. After graduating, he worked briefly at Honeywell as an assembler and then he went to New Jersey where he trained to be a horse jockey and later joined the Marines. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal. Joseph was a very caring and compassionate man who had a love for all animals, especially cats & birds.

Joseph is survived by four children, Kurt Chiarenza, Lisa Lima & her fiancé Bernard Schindler, Michael Chiarenza, and Gretchen Chojnacki & her companion Emilio Crawford; one sister, Mildred Cartier; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his cat, Tigo.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, Lawrence on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 4 – 7 p.m. At the family’s request, interment will be private.
