Heng Sok

Heng Sok died peacefully in the comfort of his own home on August 6, 2017 in Lawrence, Massachusetts at the age of 93.

Heng was born on June 12, 1924 in Cambodia. He was married to the deceased, Noun Ney, and had been together for over 63 years. He practiced reading and writing religious scriptures of Theravada Buddhism and when needed to, was able to utilize his teachings to give blessings and conduct official ceremonies. After the loss of two of his children due to the Khmer Rogue he devoted himself to giving back to his community regardless of the dangerous risks during that time. He also prioritized taking care of his remaining family. 

As the situation in Cambodia became more trying, all but one of Heng’s children gradually found refuge in the United States. Eventually establishing their new lives Heng was able to join them in Hampton, Virginia. He later retired and spent the remainder of his life in Lawrence, Massachusetts with one of his sons. 

Heng will be deeply missed by his 5 sons, Samoeun Heng and his wife Thuok Pel with their children: Chanthy Moeun, Chantol Moeun, Chantheng Mouen, Sam Mouen, Simon Moeun, and Johnny Moeun. Peov sok and his wife Keokunthea Sok with their children: Christopher Sok, Michael Sok, Judy sok, and Junie sok.  Peng Sok and his wife Phal Po with their children: Sophorn Sok, Sopheak Sok, John Sok, Sophors Sok, and Sophath Sok. Heang Sok and his wife Navy Cheng with their children: Sayda Sok, Khalyyan Sok, Voleak Sok, and Angelina Sok. Leng Sok and his wife Chhan Ran with their children. He will also be missed by his 3 daughters, Nem Sok and her husband Pep Liev with their children, will also miss him: Sopheap Liev, Sopheah Liev, Sophon Liev, and Tia Liev. Sokhom Sok and her husband Kim Tran with their children: Averest Tran, Rocky Tran, and Linda Tran. Niem Sok and her husband Yang Eap and their children. He will also be missed by this his many other great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and several nieces and nephews. 

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Diaz-Healy Funeral Home,107 South Broadway, opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. Mr. Sok's funeral will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral service at Linwood Chapel Crematory, 41 John Ward Ave., Haverhill at 9 a.m.
